The invitations were a result of a worldwide collaboration between a graphic designer in Ohio, my mother-in-law in California, and myself in Australia. I knew I wanted to have a blend of materials in the suite and loved the idea of putting kraft paper, wood and cotton together. Alaina at Cheerupcherup printed the wooden RSVP cards and the envelopes. I requested the invite content as a digital file and had it made as a rubber stamp locally. I purchased homespun cotton and red thread at a fabric store, and kindly asked my mother-in-law to cut and stitch them to size. Once they made it back to Australia, I stamped and assembled the suite.

Our event stylist created a guest book where our guests were asked to suggest adventures for us to go on or to give us any words of wisdom. Average base cost for a Carondelet House wedding is calculated by figuring a 125-person guest list for a Saturday night wedding with food and alcohol using their in-house caterer, Tres LA, and tax and service charge. Transportation to venue, entertainment, decorations, flowers, etc. are not included. I have a huge family so food cascades from various corners, while people zip from here to there, and kids crawl about. I wanted to maintain that freedom and liveliness and knew that how we approached food would be the major driver in delivering this. We decided against a formal sit-down dinner and thought that a cocktail reception with passed heavy and playful hors d’ouerves would allow people to move and mingle freely.

On the flip-side, because there are multiple areas, it’s easy to have both a ceremony and reception there, which is a plus. If you’re looking for a central Los Angeles venue, I would definitely check out the Carondelet House. I definitely have a soft spot in my heart for venues with this kind of vibe. It’s weathered yet romantic, and is more New Orleans than Los Angeles. They’ve done a great job with the furnishings, and if you use their in-house caterer, Tres LA, the venue rental fee is not absurd. While I love the look and feel of the Carondelet House, there are a couple drawbacks.
